Make informed decisions
Our soil scanning service creates a detailed map of the variation in soil properties across individual fields and provides the ideal base for making informed management decisions. Soil scanning can be used to:
Soil mapping made simple
Mapping soil type
A non-contact scanner is trailed over the ground, sending out an electromagnetic field that is conducted through the soil. Different properties in the soil affect this field and a receiver records the signal, building up a ‘map’ of the variation in soil properties across each field.
Mapping nutrients
Combined with soil sampling, soil scanning produces rich and detailed maps showing how nutrients vary not only across each individual field but across your farm. This enables us to create prescription variable rate drill plans or variable rate fertilisers plans, reducing seed and input costs.
Mapping other factors
When combined with our soil sampling services, soil scanning can provide detailed maps of pH and soil organic matter/soil organic carbon across individual fields, further aiding management decisions and helping you to accurately monitor the impact of any changes to your farming practices.
How this helps you
Precision application
When combined with precision agriculture variable rate technology, soil scanning maps provide highly accurate data to inform all field operations.
Better nutrient management
Even without variable rate technology, our soil scanning maps allow you to divide each field into ‘management zones’ and target inputs only where they are needed.
Monitoring impact over time
While soil scanning only needs to be carried out once, GPS-identified soil sampling points can be used to update the scanning maps and assess changes over time.
