The Countryside Stewardship scheme 2021 is now open, including Mid Tier, Higher Tier and Capital grants–and incorporating Organic payment options
Countryside Stewardship provides a range of financial incentives for farmers and land managers to look after their farm environment by conserving and restoring wildlife habitats, managing woodlands and flood risks, as well as supporting hedgerow and boundaries management and specific capital works that help to maintain the character of the countryside.
Years of experience
With many years’ experience in all aspects of Countryside Stewardship scheme grant and Organic conversion/Organic land management payment applications, we can help you identify which options best suit your individual farm, and explain the scheme payments and requirements–including record-keeping and inspections.
We can also help with full agreement management–from writing and submitting your application to making all necessary claims on your behalf. We can even help to maintain all necessary records, ready for inspection–especially useful if you’re considering organic conversion.
Hedgerows and Boundaries
Alongside the Capital Grants options, the Hedgerows and Boundaries Grant scheme is available under Countryside Stewardship and is designed to help farmers and land managers restore existing farm boundaries, and deliver environmental and landscape benefits on their land. Unlike previous years, those in existing Higher Level Stewardship agreements can also apply.
There are a number of different options, including repairing stone-faced banks, restoring stone walls and laying, coppicing and gapping up hedges. The scheme is competitive, which means that applications are assessed to determine which ones offer the best results for the environment—and the best value for money—in your local area. So it’s important to get your application right to ensure you’re in the best position from the outset.
Applications for Mid Tier opened on 11 February and close on 31 July 2020. You must request a Mid Tier paper application pack by email or phone no later than 31 May 2020.
Applications for Higher Tier opened on 11 February, and close on 1 May 2020 for initial applications. You must request a Higher Tier application pack by email or phone no later than 31 March 2020.
Hedgerows and boundaries grant applications opened on 11 February and close on 1 May 2020. You must submit your application for Hedgerows and Boundaries no later than 1 May 2020.
IMPORTANT: if you are planning to convert to Organic in the next 12 months you will need to apply for Countryside Stewardship in this application window (i.e. before 31 July 2020) to ensure you make the most of available conversion payments.
