Tom was brought up on an organic dairy farm near Lanreath in Cornwall. He flew the nest at 19 and headed north to Shropshire to study at Harper Adams. After gaining an HND in Agriculture, Tom went on to work as an Area Manager and Farm Animal Nutritionist for Agri-King for seven years, before setting out his stall as an independent consultant.
These days, Tom has taken on and expanded the family farm, raising organic beef cattle and organic cereals at Lesquite Organics with his wife, Nic Tolputt. He uses this experience, together with his years as an on-farm nutritionist, to advise a broad range of both organic and conventional farm businesses across the UK.
Anthony’s passion is effective soil management. He believes soil is our most precious asset and is the key starting point for any crop management regime.
Anthony grew up on his family’s mixed farm. Nestled in the valleys between Liskeard and Looe, Anthony learned the business of farming from his father and grandfather. Also succumbing to the temptations of Shropshire, Anthony graduated from Harper Adams in 2004 with a BSc (Hons) in Agriculture with Environmental Management and went on to become a commercial agronomist.
Over the years, Anthony has built up extensive knowledge and experience of a range of different crops, both organically and conventionally. He has gained numerous BASIS qualifications, including Crop Protection, Soil and Water Management and Biodiversity and Ecological Training for Advisors, as well as FACTS.
Anna’s passion is animal welfare. She believes that sustainable farming systems need livestock, but any livestock we use for meat, milk, fibre or leather must be managed to deliver high welfare.
Following the completion of her BSc (Hons) Agriculture at Seale Hayne, Anna spent nine years as a farm manager, primarily working on large-scale free-range pig units. Following that she spent four years working in an advisory role with the Soil Association, managing the technical advisory team for the Food and Farming department.
Anna’s work often takes her far from the Southwest of the UK. She has experience in working around the world where she has been involved in the development and ongoing management of animal welfare programmes for food retailers, fashion brands and charitable organisations.
For UK farmers, Anna works directly with farm businesses in a range of areas—from practical farm management, grant applications, stewardship application and management of stewardship agreements, to planning and record keeping for organic inspections and BPS claims.
